5th WPSC - 16th APSA Congress 2022

Greetings from Presidents of Planning Schools Associations

The year 2022 has been marked as the Celebration of two decades of the WPSC and the fifth WPSC since it was founded in 2001. The Congress also became a very remarkable moment that it was jointly held with the 16th Asian Planning Schools Association Congress.

The Indonesian Planning Schools Association has become the host for the joint between the 5th WPSC and the 16th APSA Congress with the theme, “Planning A Global Village: Inclusion, Innovation, and Disruption.” which was held in a hybrid mode in Bali, Indonesia, from 29 August to 2 September 2022.

The WPSC-APSA Congress brought together several relevant and leading issues that challenge planning notions and practices and more importantly, seek more productive collaborations among planning education institutions in this global village.

All Recorded seasons of the Congress

The main congress was attended by 810 participants from 44 countries around the world on a hybrid basis, with no less than 400 participants participating directly in Bali. The WPSC-APSA Congress 2022 consisted of four Pre-Congress events, two Plenary sessions, about 120 Parallel sessions, GPEAN and APSA Committee meetings, and three mobile workshops. 

The Pre-Congress events consisted of International Ph.D. Colloquium, Planning Studio, International Students Competition, and Global Planning Students Meeting, as agenda, to enrich planning education that complements the WPSC and APSA Congress. Totally about 1,247 participants attended the pre-Congress and main Congress events.

From the GPEAN Committee meeting, the GPEAN board has selected Prof. Zeynep Enlil as Chair, Prof. Paulo Silva as Vice Chair, and Prof. Deden Rukmana as Secretary. The next WPSC event will be held in 2026, and the Steering Committee for the next Congress has been nominated.

While from the APSA Committee Meeting, Prof. Bakti Setiawan has been chosen for the APSA Chairman 2022-2024 period. The next APSA Congresses will be held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2024, and Hongkong in 2026.

GPEAN Presidents Key Messages

The GPEAN Presidents Key Messages is a plenary session of WPSC-APSA Congress where all the Presidents of Planning Schools Associations member of GPEAN introduce their association and vision about the GPEAN and planning schools in the future.

Pre Congress

International PhD Colloquium - 29/08

Providing opportunities for the Ph.D. planning students between countries to communicate and promote group cohesion also provides a chance to discuss and evaluate goals and objectives and develop courses of action

Planning Studio: Global Shared Learning - 22/08

A WPSC-APSA pre-congress program that provides opportunities for the all-planning schools across continents to discuss and evaluate planning studio processes and products to be able to produce qualified graduates and ready to contribute to various planning practices.

International Students Competition - 29/08

The International Student Competition allows planning students to present their studio project work in WPSC-APSA Pre-Congress 2022. The competition aims to encourage students’ planning work to face global transformation, which assesses includes planning concept, originality, innovation, content, and presentation.

Global Planning Student Meeting - 29/08

Provide opportunities for the planning students between countries to communicate and promote group cohesion also provide a career talk to enrich student's perspectives on their working profession

Congress

Plenary Session

This session proposes a theme to be discussed regarding “Planning a Global Village: Inclusion, Innovation and Disruption” and will invite distinguished international speakers to deliver inspiring and thought-provoking speeches related to the theme to the global audience

Parallel Session

This session consists of abstract presentations and calls for sessions from various topics of tracks to explore and critically examine the issues related to the main Congress theme. There will be 13 tracks with different sessions

GPEAN and APSA Meeting

The Congresses that bring together planning education scholars represent the association of GPEAN members and APSA members

Mobile Workshop

Designed to offer the Congress participants an educational experience through locally sourced examples of places and projects. The participants will be divided into small groups according to a preferred theme

WPSC-APSA Congress Reflection
