WPSC – APSA Congress 2022

International Students Competition

Participants and Jurors of the International Student Competition, a WPSC-APSA Pre-Congress event. Bali-Indonesia, 29 August 2022.

The International Students Competition Award WPSC APSA 2022 is the initial program initiative held in the WPSC or APSA Congress. The program was held as part of the pre-congress activities before the WPSC APSA congress. The competition theme is “Inclusive and Innovative Spatial Planning” and is divided into five sub-themes consisting of:

  1. Climate change and environment
  2. Heritage and conservation
  3. Healthy city
  4. Disaster and resilience
  5. Tourism and urban regeneration

There were 39 projects submitted to the competition from student teams representing universities around the world. 24 projects qualified all the requirements that can be processed to the first selection stage.

Based on the assessment that has been carried out by considering the substance aspects: topic relevance, poster systematics, creativity, ideas, concepts, and strategies, the ten projects were selected as the Top 10 finalists International Students Competition. The first stage of the assessment was carried out by reviewers representing experts with knowledge and experience in fields relevant to sub-themes. The top ten finalists have done presentations, and the judging process as the final stage was carried out in a hybrid session of the WPSC-APSA Pre-Congress event on Monday, August 29th, 2022. The judging process was opened by the President of GPEAN, Prof. Eduardo A. C. Nobre.

The judging process carried out was the presentation of the project by the teams that entered the top ten finalists and a question-and-answer session between the jurors and the finalists. The jurors gave questions to the finalists who presented their projects and participants answered the jurors’ questions or provided clarification on their projects.

The Jurors of the top ten finalists consisted of:

  1. Prof. Eduardo A. C. Nobre from Alberto Cusce Nobre School of Architecture and Urbanism, University of São Paulo
  2. Gabriella Quintana Vigiola, Ph.D., School of Built Environment – Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, University of Technology Sydney
  3. Prof. Haryo Winarso from Urban Planning and Design Research Group School of Architecture Planning and Policy Development, Institute Technology Bandung, Indonesia

Finally, the judging process which took place on Monday, August 29, 2022, was completed in a hybrid manner. Next, the winners were announced at the WPSC APSA Congress event on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

The Winners of the International Students Competition consisted of:

  1. The champion is the team with ID submission no. 378 titled “Cicurug Walk” from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia is entitled to receive USD 2,000-.
  2. Runner-Up Winner is the team with ID submission number 490 titled “WATER FOR LIVABILITY. Stormwater is not the problem: it is the solution” from Curtin University, Australia, and is entitled to receive USD1,500 -.
  3. The second Runner Up Winner is the team with ID submission number 610 titled “Urban Remedy at Rawa Buaya” from Pradita University, Indonesia, and is entitled to receive USD 1,000-.
