Planning studio is a strategic course within the planning curriculum. Through the shared learning of different ways planning schools create innovations to develop studio classes, we have to think further about how we should educate planners from an outcome perspective.
The Pre Congress Planning Studio Programs of WPCS APSA 2022 is presented through Global Shared Learning of Planning Studio experiences among planning schools communities, and an International Joint Studio, a collaboration of 9 development institutions and planning schools.
By including this activity in the WPSC pre-congress, it is hoped that there will be more collaboration among universities from different countries in the future in organizing joint planning studio to have a richer process for mutual learning and sharing.
Global Shared Learning of Planning Studio provides opportunities for all planning schools across continents to discuss and evaluate planning studio processes and products in order to produce qualified graduates that are ready to contribute to various planning practices. This event is a closing ceremony of International Joint Studio (IJS) 2022 that is held on 12-22 August 2022 in Semarang, Indonesia.
To trigger further discussions and learning from the outcomes made on IJS 2022, several speakers from different countries will present some of the innovations that have been made in the implementation of planning studio, especially for the postgraduate level. Participants of this pre-congress event are invited to learn more about planning studio innovations.
International Joint Studio (IJS 2022) is a platform for students to enhance their academic competencies and professional skills as well as their comprehension of urban planning from various perspectives. This activity is a collaboration of four universities in Indonesia; Diponegoro University, Gadjah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Brawijaya University, KotaLab France, and ESSEC France. The planning team who are members of IJS is required to be able to implement the framework, budget, and governance strategies in the process of realizing a sustainable city.

The method of implementing IJS is pedagogy to make students more comfortable and confident in learning new areas of knowledge. Furthermore, IJS facilitates studio participants to learn by carrying out the dynamics of urban development, including aspects of governance, community participation, real estate speculation, land values and prices, and project management. Gamification is the job of the CITY LIVELIHOOD-MAKERS studio. The students involved in IJS are master students. The implementation of IJS will involve professionals and practitioners. This is done to bridge the gap between formal education and professional life in the design and implementation of urban projects.
